Principal - Private Debt & Equity

A Principal is responsible for the analysis, evaluation, and execution of private equity and debt investment opportunities offered to Northwestern Mutual Capital by investment bankers, issuers, and private equity sponsors. Specific responsibilities include developing investment theses, financial modeling and valuation, structuring investment securities, conducting industry and business due diligence, authoring investment memos, leading investment committee discussions, and developing relationships with senior level executives, investment bankers, and private equity sponsors. Principals are also responsible for monitoring investments in the Northwestern Mutual Capital portfolio as well as completing workouts of underperforming investments. The Principal, operating in a team environment, will be given increasing responsibility over time and high performers can expect significant career advancement opportunities.

Requirements include an MBA from a top-tier business school (0-2 years of post-MBA experience) and a minimum of four years of experience in investment banking, private equity, equity research, or other related industries. A broad knowledge of investments, an understanding of economic forces affecting a wide range of industries, proficiency in accounting, strong computer modeling skills, and intellectual curiosity, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with corporate executives, attorneys and senior members of Northwestern Mutual Capital are also required.

Analyst - Private Debt & Equity

An Investment Analyst is responsible for assisting in the evaluation of new private equity and debt investments across a wide range of industries. Specific responsibilities include financial modeling and valuation, conducting industry and business due diligence, assisting in the writing of investment recommendation memos, and contributing to investment committee discussions. An Investment Analyst will also assist in the evaluation and monitoring of our $65+ billion private equity and debt portfolio. As part of the investment process, the Investment Analyst will interact with senior investment professionals on a daily basis. The Investment Analyst, operating in a team environment, will be given increasing responsibility over time and high performers can expect career advancement opportunities (Senior Analyst and Associate).

Requirements include a four-year undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, or mathematics and a track record of academic excellence. A broad knowledge of investments, an understanding of economic forces affecting a wide range of industries, proficiency in accounting, strong computer modeling skills, and intellectual curiosity are required. The ability to communicate effectively is also required. The Investment Analyst position is a two to three-year assignment, and high performers can expect promotion to Senior Analyst and potentially Associate.

Analyst Intern - Private Debt & Equity

The NMC Summer Analyst program is designed for high performing undergraduates with a demonstrated interest in finance and investing to gain direct exposure to private equity and fixed income investing. Over the course of the program, Summer Analysts can expect to begin to develop a foundational skillset in valuation, financial modeling, investment thesis development and deal execution that will prove to be invaluable in future opportunities.
